Shabbat Morning Minyanim

Shabbat is a unique “palace in time” which offers the opportunity to disconnect from the work week, and reconnect with God and with the community.  At Temple Beth Sholom, on Shabbat we gather together to pray, learn, and celebrate lifecycle events from bar and bat mitzvahs to baby namings to aufrufs, birthdays, and anniversaries.  Our Shabbat morning services are held in the Main Sanctuary, where Rabbi Lucas, Rabbi Beyer, and Cantor Barnoy lead us in a warm, welcoming, service of traditional prayer, sermons, and Torah study.

Our traditional, egalitarian Shabbat morning Sanctuary service is the heart of our religious life at Temple Beth Sholom, as each week hundreds of our family join together to pray and celebrate.  Everyone looks forward to Rabbi Alan Lucas’ or Rabbi Cecelia Beyer's sermon, where our rabbis exhibit a unique ability to connect the weekly Torah portion to contemporary issues.  We also take great pride in our Torah reading program, where congregants prepare and chant portions of the weekly parsha.

Shefa Minyan
The Shefa Minyan is Temple Beth Sholom’s informal, spirited, participatory, and community-led prayer service that is welcoming and open to all ages!  If you are interested in leading part of the service, reading Torah or Haftarah, or would like to learn more about this unique minyan, please contact David Rosenthal.  The Shefa Minyan meets monthly in the Sandler Chapel.

Shefa means “abundance,” and the Shefa Minyan celebrates the abundance of knowledge, spirituality and “ruach” within the TBS community, as well as the abundance of ritual options that our pluralistic, diverse, and vibrant community can explore and enjoy!

Shabbat Evening (Friday Night) Minyanim

Chapel Service
On Friday evenings we welcome Shabbat with song and a traditional Kabbalat Shabbat service in the Sandler chapel.  The friendly, relaxed service provides a gentle transition from the hectic week into the sacred space of Shabbat.  Services begin at candle lighting time each week.  (Please view the service times posted on the website for exact service times; in the summer, services begin no later than 6:30 pm).

Friday Night Live
Once a month Temple Beth Sholom offers an exciting Friday night experience that is not to be missed!  Sing and dance along to Kabbalat Shabbat melodies by Rick Recht, Shlomo Carlebach, Craig Taubman, Debbie Friedman, Sol Zim, and other contemporary Jewish music superstars!  Join Cantor Barnoy, and the TBS youth choir, accompanied by the Friday Night Live band, for a rocking, ruach-filled Friday night experience!

Daily Minyanim
Our daily minyan meets for morning and evening services in the Sandler Chapel 365 days a year.  Coordinated by our clergy team, our lay-led minyan is a welcoming and supportive community available for mourners, those observing a Yahrzeit and all regular daveners.

Weekday services are held at 6:45 am and 8 pm and Sundays at 9 am and 8 pm.  On national holidays (New Year’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas), weekday morning services are held at 9 am.  We also coordinate and support home minyanim during shiva.
