Ellen Walk
Vice President of Membership
Ellen thinks of Temple Beth Sholom as a neighborhood treasure, and as VP of Membership she is looking forward to sharing that thought with prospective new members. She and her husband Paul joined the shul after sending their daughters Melissa (University of Michigan '07) and Rebecca (Indiana University '10) to the
nursery school. But Ellen was uneasy about becoming involved at TBS. Not knowing many active members, she felt like an outsider. That feeling changed almost immediately when she made the decision to join just one committee. You guessed it, it was the
Membership Committee. And that is why it gives her particular pleasure to serve as head of this committee and help other new members become a part of the TBS family.
Ellen also has served on the
Board of Trustees, the
Religious Affairs Committee, the High Holiday Committee, and as the head of the Bikur Cholim arm of the
Chesed Committee.
A Registered Dietitian, Ellen has a B.A. in Human Nutrition from the University of Michigan and M.S. in Nutrition Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is the Health Education Coordinator of the Women’s Health Center at Jacobi Medical Center, where she teaches prenatal patients about labor and delivery, parenting, and family planning.
On most Shabbat mornings, Ellen can be found on the left side of the sanctuary, in the back row . (She affectionately refers to it as the "Deli section", because it is also home to our members the Bergers, the Franks, and the Freys). There she will be happy to show you her extensive sticker collection, which she keeps in her tallit bag and uses to entertain her younger friends.
